Norris “Norro” Denton Wilson

Grammy award winning music icon Norro Wilson passed away in Nashville on June 8, 2017 at the age of 79. He was a celebrated singer, songwriter and producer who began his career in 1957 with the Southlanders Gospel Quartet. In 1967, he began working for Al Gallico music as a song plugger and later was one of the first songwriters ever to have crossover success with the hit "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World." Norro was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame in 2008.

He was a boating enthusiast who could never get enough of the water. Whether it was planes, trains or automobiles, Captain Marvel loved them all. He was an incredible songwriter and also an avid reader. He could be found on most sunny days with his favorite book in hand, relaxing on the porch of his boat. But at his core he was a man who deeply loved his family - and loved nothing more than spending precious time with them.

Norro is survived by his daughter, Christy Myers (Jody); son, David Wilson; granddaughter Wilson; Mother of his children and beloved cohort Patsy Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Marietta Wilson.

Services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on West End Ave. Nashville, Tn. on Thursday, June 15th at 3:30pm. A celebration of life ceremony will immediately follow at BMI (Braodcast Music Inc.) from 5-7pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring their stories and memories of Norro to share. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alive Hospice.
