Mary Elizabeth Cornwell

March 16, 1944 — June 6, 2024

Mary Elizabeth Stinson Cornwell, 80, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend of many sadly left our world just before sunset on Thursday, June 6, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Mary touched many lives as she walked through life with warmth and love that was infectious to those who had the honor of knowing her.  Her smile was constant and genuine.  Her demeanor was quiet and unassuming.  Her care for others had no limits.

She had fallen ill in late 2023 and her health progressively declined over the following months up and until her recent passing and transition to a place where words alone cannot adequately describe.

As sad as the decline was to witness, it provided a final gift for her family and those who shared a love for her.  Everyone was able to visit, hold her hand, listen to her, kiss her cheeks and forehead, talk about her life, share photos, feed her, nurse her, comfort her, cry with her, lift her up and tell her how much she was loved.

Born on March 15th, 1944 in Scottsville, KY, she was the first-born child of Mayme & Walter Stinson.  She was the first of what would grow to be a family of 10 children.  Her birth was followed by a baby brother, Daniel.  Quickly followed by her beautiful sisters:  Judy, Linda, Veta, Kathy, Kay, Rita & Donna and finally another little brother, Jeffrey.

Mary was a retired employee from General Electric/A.O. Smith where she worked tirelessly for 22 years to support her family.  For a small woman in stature, the work was hard and physically challenging.  She took it in stride, made numerous friends, laughed, cried and quickly grew to love this second family.

She was a devout Christian and believer of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She spoke often of surrendering her life to God at Cedar Cross Church in rural Allen County, KY when she was 12 years old.  She later was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for several years before moving from the community.  Her faith was core to who she was and where she found her strength and incredible ability to love everyone regardless of their past or present life situations.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, James Robert Cornwell.  Four children:  Loria Cornwell (Johnny Fulcher) Scottsville, Mike Cornwell (Donna), Scottsville, Steve Cornwell (Kent Gregoire), Boston, MA & Mark Cornwell, Scottsville.

One step son:  Ricky Cornwell (Teresa) of Scottsville

Five Grandchildren:  Natasha Burch, Scottsville, James Lee Cornwell (Jory), Scottsville, Maleiah Creeger, Glasgow, KY, Macey Weaver (Dylan), Ruston, LA & Katie Towe (Dustin), Scottsville
