Larry “Joe” Lyle, 87 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the Bowling Green Medical Center in Bowling Green.
Joe was born on December 30, 1936 to Hobart Read Lyle and Thelma Louise Hood Lyle. Joe entered the beginning of a distinguished military career in the United States Army in 1955 and became part of an elite Special Forces Group, serving as a Green Beret with three tours in Vietnam, as well as tours in Panama, Korea and Germany. Joe achieved the highest enlisted rank of Command Sergeant Major (CSM) in the US Army and retired from his military service in 1978. Upon military retirement, Joe worked in service from AO Smith and GE to Smuckers. He “retired” a couple of times, but he was never satisfied with sitting still. Joe was a Master Mason that emulated the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth, as well as a Kentucky Colonel. Joe loved to read the Bible and had a tremendously strong faith in God.
Through the years, Joe loved his work on the family farm, fixing cars and caring for his many animals that he loved so much.
Joe was preceded to Heaven by his mother and father. His is survived by his son, LTC (retired) Larry Joe Lyle, Jr. and wife Monica, his three grandsons; Broc, Beau and Judd, and his life partner, Marilyn Bramlett of Scottsville, KY.
Visitation will be Monday, September 9, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at T. W. Crow and Son Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2024 at the funeral home with Pastor Mason Harris officiating and burial to follow in Crescent Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Victory Hill Dream Center.
