The Scottsville native was the son of the late James A. and Ruth T. Spears Vinson and was preceded in death by his brother, Richard W. Vinson.
David was an Electrician and partner with Richard Vinson in Vinson Electric Supply for many years before retiring in 2003. He considered his customers as friends and they could count on him even in their after-hours emergencies. His work ethic was just one of his great qualities. He was kind, compassionate, hard-working and enjoyed life to the fullest. Most of all, he was a wonderful father.
In retirement, he enjoyed camping and fishing at Lake Malone and visiting his family. He enjoyed spending time with Kelsey (granddaughter) playing board games, shooting pool, and of course, watching UK basketball.
David was a Christian and attended several churches over the years: Scottsville Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, and in later years Scott Depot Christ Fellowship. When not able to attend, he enjoyed watching Dr. Charles Stanley.
He is survived by one daughter, Tracey (Brandon) Sherman, one grandchild, Kelsey Sherman, sister, Betty Taylor and several nieces and nephews.
Thank you to the nurses and staff at Celebration Villa who loved him and became part of his family. He loved you all and especially loved his breakfasts and countless homemade milkshakes. He was a jokester and usually kept nurses and residents laughing. Sometimes, he even assisted with supervising maintenance. He had an old sign framed on his wall that read, “Electrical Wiring by David L. Vinson”, which prompted many conversations.
Thank you to Hospice Care. We are so grateful for you and the care you provided. Donations may be sent to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W, Charleston, WV 25387.
Family and close friends will be celebrating the life of David on August 18, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the Crescent Hill Cemetery.
